Intent
At Wrangle Primary Academy, our intent is to provide children with the exciting opportunities to explore the language of French, aspiring them to open doors for their future as well as developing their knowledge and curiosity about another culture. We want our children to be resilient by being challenged to take on a new language. We listen, speak, read and write in French in Key Stage Two; this enables us to be ready for secondary school where we will learn other languages.
Implementation
Our teachers follow the Kapow curriculum for French in Key Stage 2. This is a mixed-age scheme, taught once per week in Key Stage 2. This provides opportunities for children to listen, speak, read and write using the vocabulary they have learnt. Topics covered throughout Key Stage 2 are broad and balanced allowing children to strengthen their knowledge of the French language and prepare them for their future learning.
Impact
Assessment of French is completed within and after the lesson. Children’s progress is measured through questioning, discussions and making observations. We want our children to leave us equipped with the basics of a new language which they could then use to go on to visit, study or work abroad.
