Attendance at Wrangle Primary Academy

At Wrangle Primary Academy, we know that regular attendance is essential for your child’s academic progress and social development. Being in school every day helps children:

  • Achieve their full potential academically
  • Build strong friendships and social skills
  • Make the most of all the learning opportunities the Academy offers

With the support of our parents and carers, we aim to minimise time lost due to absence, so every child can fully benefit from school life and reach their potential.

Our target:
We aim for 95% attendance or above for every pupil, as this is a key indicator of excellent attendance and engagement.

What you do if your child is absent?

Reporting Absence at Wrangle Primary Academy

If your child is absent from school, please follow these steps:

  1. Call the school office on 01205 870509 as soon as possible.

  2. If you cannot get through, leave a message on the answer phone.

  3. If there are any difficulties in getting your child to school, please contact us immediately. You can also speak to a member of our attendance team in person at the school office.

Medical and Dental Appointments

  • We ask that you avoid booking appointments during school hours where possible.

  • If your child has an appointment, inform the front office in advance and provide medical evidence.

  • Any other absence must be put in writing and handed to the office.

Follow-Up on Absence

  • If contact is not made by 9.15am, the school will call you.

  • If we cannot make contact, a home visit may be completed to ensure your child’s safety.

 Moving Schools

  • If you decide to move your child to another school, please inform us as soon as a place is secured.

  • A form must be completed so the school can update records.

  • If relevant information is not provided, we may need to report your child to the ‘Children Missing in Education’ department at Lincolnshire County Council.

  • After 21 days of unexplained absence, the school reserves the right to remove your child from our roll.

Withholding a child from school

As an Academy we work closely with the Local Authority to ensure that attendance remains at a good level. It is against the law to withhold your child from education, this could be considered whereby a child is persistently late, repeatedly collected from school early or refusing to send your child based on issues you may have at home or school. The Local Authority are considering taking proceedings against these parents that school deem to be withholding children from school.

Special Educational Needs

As an academy we strive to ensure that all children are treated equally, every child is different and it is important that every child feels included within the academy. We appreciate that often some children can struggle with the busy starts to the day or there may be a change to the school day that particular day however we are there to help. Mrs Hebron (SENDCO) helps to ensure that children that may have special educational needs are supported and feel happy coming into school. If this is an area you are struggling with, please contact the school on 10205 870509

As with all children their attendance level will still be closely monitored and procedures will be followed in accordance with the academy’s attendance policy.

Holidays

We ask that holidays are not taken in term time. As in accordance with our policy any holiday taken in term time will be unauthorised unless deemed exceptional circumstances and you will be issued with a fixed penalty notice. Holiday forms must be completed and handed into the office two weeks prior to the departure date.

Lateness

The school day starts at 8.35am, any child that is not in school when the register is completed at 8.50am will be recorded as L (late). Any child that is bought into school after registers close at 9.20am will receive an unauthorised absence mark.

Persistent Absence

All children will recieve termly letters to allow parents to know their current attendance level. These will be coded green, yellow or red to show the attendance clearly. Children who have an attendance figure lower than 94% will automatically receive a letter from the academy, advising you that your child’s attendance has slipped below an acceptable standard and that this will be monitored closely. If your child’s attendance figure continues to drop you will be invited to attend an Attendance Panel Meeting with the Principal, Mrs Hebron. If your child’s attendance continues to drop and there has been no effort to improve this, we will look to issue a fixed penalty notice, which could then lead to prosecution.

Details of unauthorised absences, our policies and procedures are all included in the attendance booklet below.

How do we reward excellent attendance?

As an academy, we really enjoying rewarding children and parents that support attendance and who attend school regularly. We ensure the postive attendance over 95% is celebrated with the green slips half termly and that improved attendance is also celebrated. Every week, we discuss the class attendance within school and the class with the highest attendance for the week will earn an extra playtime – which the children love!

As an Academy we think it is really important to award the children who continually attend school.

Beech Class – 94.38%

Willow Class – 90.59%

Oak Class – 99.5%

Well done Oak class for winning the attendance this week – your class has won an extra playtime!
