Intent
At Wrangle Primary Academy, our Computing curriculum will prepare our children for the future. We follow a progressive programme of study using Kapow where children meet and develop a range of skills that are built upon year after year. Children are able to link their learning of skills and knowledge across curriculum areas and develop their curiosity due to the constant changing world of Technology. Our curriculum is aspirational – we ensure that pupils become digitally literate and are able to express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world. Resilience is taught through opportunities to use logical reasoning to debug and correct algorithms. As a result of this, children will be excited to become computer scientists and learn to be digitally literate.
Implementation
Computing is taught in discrete one hour lessons in week which teach our children the necessary Computing and ICT skills as set out in the National Curriculum. Children are then taught to apply these skills in cross curricular subjects to develop their confidence with using our equipment. This may include accessing the Internet, using our iPads or laptops to publish work or exploring educational programmes such as TT Rockstars. Online safety is at the heart of our Computing curriculum and children are taught how to use technology safely, appropriately and to their best advantage.
Assessment of Computing skills and knowledge is made by teachers within lessons and across the curriculum. Teachers will assess how well children have learnt something new in a lesson, revisiting this through retrieval activities in subsequent lessons or adapting the support and scaffolds given. Due to the embedded use of technology and Computing skills across the curriculum, there are many opportunities for teachers to assess which skills the children have.
Impact
As a result of our aspirational curriculum, our children will be prepared to continue their learning in Key Stage 3 and beyond. Our children will be digitally literate, and excited to explore new technology in our ever-changing world. The way pupils showcase, share, celebrate and publish their work will best show the impact of our curriculum.
